A Lifetime of Laughter |
|
Carol has a lifetime’s involvement in theatre. Her parents were both great performers and storytellers. Her father, Ernest Conybeare performed in the Flying Gordons Circus Troupe and her mother Hilda, performed at Melbourne’s Tivoli Theatre with magician Charles Breton. As a child, Carol grew to love singing and performing for anyone who’d listen. She began to write, direct and perform in her own shows in the shelter shed at primary school. She appeared in numerous talent quests and community shows and developed a keen sense of comedy, timing and musicianship. Once married with children. Carol began to write and direct pantomimes for the local primary school’s annual fete. A cast of willing parents starred in the annual productions which were staged for many years to packed houses Carol moved on to amateur theatre and performed in a number of shows for Eltham Little Theatre and Warrandyte Theatre. At this time she began to write her own shows. They were staged with great success over several years. When Carol moved to Central Victoria in 1991, she joined the Creswick Theatre Company and so began a long and successful relationship with Carol becoming the resident playwright for over 14 years, Her annual Christmas Cabaret show has been performed to sell out houses for many years. It is her unique brand of comedy and her ability to portray the lives of ordinary people in a comical way that has audiences returning year after year to enjoy a show that enables them to laugh at stories and characters they are utterly familiar with. Carol also performs in the Company’s annual children’s pantomime and has played a multitude of characters from a goose to a Cheshire Cat to a mirror. Carol’s other theatrical work has included appearances in film and some TV advertisements. A highlight of her theatrical career was performing in the Tsunami Relief Concert at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Ballarat. She is continuing her theatrical adventures with the planning of a one woman show that will showcase the many hilarious characters she has created over the years. |
